Albany police make two arrests

ALBANY -- Albany police have made two arrests tonight in connection with a pair of unrelated crimes.

A man identified as Calvin Brooks was arrested in connection with June 24 beating and death last Friday of Jerome Walden.

Walden was beaten so severely on June 24 that he went into a coma and never regained consciousness before he died Friday.

Two suspects have already been charged in that case -- Tracy L. Smith, 33, and Demarcus Dontravious Lewis, 20, who remain in Dougherty County Jail on aggravated assault and battery charges in connection with the beating of Walden. District Attorney Greg Edwards says they will now face murder charges.

The second arrest tonight was an individual identified as Rodney Allen. APD officials say he has been charged with armed robbery in connection with the weekend robbery of a Chevron station on East Oglethorpe Boulevard on Sunday.
