OMAHA, Neb. -- Josh Broadaway knows his supporters back home in Albany are awaiting the day when he returns to Southwest Georgia with a big ol' check and his first Nationwide Tour win.
But Broadaway -- who had been near the top of the leaderboard all week at Cox Classic in Omaha, Neb. -- was the first to admit Saturday that his fans will likely have to wait at least another week for that moment.
Broadaway, who came into Saturday's third round tied for tied for 10th overall, fell to a tie for 20th on Saturday after shooting a 1-under 70, including an ill-timed double bogey on No. 16.
"I'm playing good. I'm playing solid, but I didn't get much out of my round (Saturday), and my bad break with that double on No. 16 -- I just put it in a bunker on my approach -- really hurt me," Broadaway told The Herald on Saturday. "I'm probably too far back to win it at this point. All I can do now is go out (today) and finish strong."
Broadaway, who is 12-under for the tournament, is now eight shots back of overall leader J.J. Killeen (20-under), and hopes his early tee time of 8:35 a.m. will be an advantage today.
"The other guys who have gone off early (in the tournament) have posted some pretty low scores, so hopefully I can do the same," he said.
Broadaway has been on a tear as of late, finishing tied for fifth on July 17 at Chiquita Classic for a payday of $20,075, then tied for fourth a week later at Children's Invitational for the biggest payday of his five-year career on the Nationwide Tour of $70, 400.
"I'm gettin' real close to popping one of these (wins) off," he said. "I'll just keep plugging along until I do."
