Len Dorminey is the CEO of HeritageBank of the South.
ALBANY -- Len Dorminey, president and CEO of Heritage Financial Group, Inc., and CEO of HeritageBank of the South was as surprised as anyone to hear the news, he said.
In a recent issue of Atlanta Business Chronicle, Dorminey was rated third on its list of 29 Georgia CEOs of The Year. There were four "ties" in the list this year, extending the total number of CEOs from 25.
According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the ranking and combined business scores weighed shareholder returns, increase in revenues and increase in net income, all equally. Only CEOs who had been with their companies since January, 2010 or longer were considered for the listing.
An Albany native, Dorminey graduated from Darton College and Georgia Southwestern State University and the banking program at Louisiana State University. He's been HeritageBank CEO since 2005, he said.
Dorminey was quick to share the credit for his listing with his fellow bank employees.
"I have let my staff know that I accept this recognition on their behalf," he said. "It was very much a team effort and I want them to know that I appreciate that."
Dorminey said that in the midst of "the greatest economic downturn most people have seen," he was glad to be able to maintain excellent credit preferences in their (the bank's) portfolio, and that, coupled with the high levels of capacity required by regulators to be well capitalized, has allowed HeritageBank to make several acquisitions in the past two years and to nearly double in size."
Dorminey said he plans to continue to be a "good steward of the money and the confidence people of Albany and Southwest Georgia have placed in HeritageBank of the South and in him.
