Albany Police Department officers paid a surprise visit to the J-L Litman Funeral Home and the home of its owner Monday night to collect documents involving transactions at the business, said a police official.
"It is early in our investigation and we are coordinating with the Secretary of State's office, the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the District attorney's Office," said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman.
No charges against Litman have been filed, Banks said.
District Attorney Greg Edwards had nothing to say on the matter.
A phone call to Litman's business was hung up on.
