APD investigating Dawson Road assault

— The Albany Police Department is looking into a Sunday morning altercation that could have turned deadly.

Officers responded in normal mode to 2700 Dawson Road in reference to a fight, an APD report said. The responding officers made contact with the victim, identified as Michael Mashburn, and a group of female friends.

“The victim stated that they met the suspect and his female friends to finish a fight that started at Charley B’s (Sports Bar and Grill),” an email from Phyllis Banks, an APD spokeswoman, said. “While the women were fighting, the victim stated that the suspect pulled out a black handgun and pointed it at him.”

Charley B’s Sports Bar and Grill is located at 2401 Dawson Road.

The incident took place just after 4 a.m. Sunday.

The suspect in the case has been identified, but there had been no charges filed or arrests made as of Monday evening, Banks said.

The case remains under investigation.
