ALBANY, Ga. — Ward VI and Mayor Pro Tem Roger Marietta will announce his plans to seek re-election to his post Tuesday morning, according to a post on the commissioner's Facebook page.

Marietta's seat is one of four up for grabs on the Albany City Commission in November.

Marietta's announcement will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the government plaza at 222 Pine Ave., he said.

In addition to Marietta, Commissioner Ward I Jon Howard, Ward VI Commissioner Tommie Postell and Albany Mayor Willie Adams each have seats up for grabs. Adams has elected to seek retirement when his term expires in December and so far, four people — restaurateur B.J. Fletcher, Ward II Commissioner Dorothy Hubbard, businessman Kirk Smith and former state representative John White — have publicly said they are seeking the mayor's office.

Bless his heart--I wish he could find something else better to do with his time.

It's good to know there are still gluttons for punishment out there. My views, and those of Mr. Marietta don't often coincide, but I have to respect the Man for trying. Anyone that would run for any Office in Albany or Doughtery County certainly has their work and aggravation cut out for them. To sit opposite some of those elected board Officials, and actually try to get good accomplished is something I couldn't stomach without reverting to some of my NAVY training. I am glad that at least one good man is trying to do something good, for if all good men were to allow things to continue on the path they are on, we would become a complete Welfare State. As Admiral Rickover once said "One man standing up and trying to get the right thing done may not succeed, but his very presence might sway the argument." (Forgive me if I don't have that quite right. It's been many years since I last saw and heard the Man)

@ Waltspecht - You probably do not know Marietta the way I do. He is a pot stirrer and really hasn't done that much at all in his ward (except put down speed humps near his house) and for the city except stick his nose where it doesn't belong (matters outside his ward) and call most of his constituents "Domestic Terrorists" on the news. He follows the other commissioners lead most of the time on the plans with the city not unless you can get a bunch of people to complain to him about the subject they are trying to cram down our throats and hold his feet to the fire. Then maybe he will change his mind but no always. Really, what has he done in the past few years that really sets him apart from the rest on the commission? I feel that there needs to be a "shake up" in the commission and now is the time to do it.
