ALBANY -- Rickey Smiley, whose Atlanta-based syndicated radio program is broadcast on 40 of the country's top urban stations, including Albany's WJIZ, will bring his "Rickey Smiley and Friends Live" show to the Albany Civic Center Saturday.

The 8 p.m. show will feature comedian/host Smiley and some of his funny friends, including Special K, Big Sean and Common Folks.

"Any time a top-rated radio host comes into a market, it's a win-win for the area and the radio station," 96.3 WJIZ station manager Elvin "Big Scoop" Fluellen said of Smiley's appearance. "There's a lot of excitement building about this appearance, so I think we're going to have a good crowd come out and enjoy the show.

"It's a tough economy right now, but WJIZ wants to help bring quality entertainment to the city."

Tickets for the show, which are available at the Civic Center box office and at Odyssey Records in the Shackleford Shopping Center at 247 E. Oglethorpe Blvd., are $25. The best seats for the performance will be awarded to advance ticket purchasers.

A VIP package, which includes a ticket and a pre-show meet-and-greet with the performers, is available for $40.

"The market is really tough right now, but we're still looking to bring quality entertainment to Albany," Odyssey Records owner Gilbert Udoto said. "That's why we're teaming up with Clear Channel and WJIZ to bring this show to the Civic Center."

Doors at the venue will open at 7 p.m.

Oh, thank God. I was afraid it was going to be Tavis Smiley. We dodged a bullet there.
