DAMASCUS -- The Southwest Georgia Academy softball team opened up Region 3-AA play Tuesday with a 9-0 five-inning win against Terrell Academy.
SGA's Bailey Ponder was one out away from pitching a perfect game before hitting a batter with two outs in the fifth inning.
That was the only base runner Ponder allowed as she threw a no hitter and struck out five.
At the plate for SGA (3-1, 1-0), Jenna Kitchings was 2-for-3 with a double and two stolen bases; Baylee Everson was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and three stoles bases; and Kyndal Carver had a three-run home run and four RBI.
COLQUITT COUNTY 6, LEE COUNTY 4: The Lee County softball team dropped Tuesday's softball game to Colquitt County, 6-4.
Alyson Marshall started and got the loss for Lee County (2-3). She pitched 4 2/3 innings, struck out two, walked three and gave up five hits and five runs.
Brandi Blunt and Hailey Scott led Lee County at the plate. Blunt was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs. Scott was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
