Diego Ramos led Darton's men's soccer team in a 4-0 shutout win Friday night to open the 2011 season.
PENSACOLA, Fla. -- What a way to start, eh?
The Darton College men's soccer team, ranked No. 6 in the NJCAA Top 25 Poll to start the season, rolled to a surprisingly easy victory against 9th-ranked San Jacinto (Texas) Community College on Friday in a shutout, 4-0, in Pensacola, Fla.
"It was a good night," fifth-year head coach Bart Sasnett said as he and his team traveled back to Albany. "They were a good team too. Those boys could play."
But Darton was simply better Friday. A lot better.
Sophomore Diego Ramos, of Deerfield Beach, Fla., lead the effort, scoring a goal and notching two assists, while J.R. Rynearson, sophomore from Shalimar, Fla., also had a goal and an assist. Freshman Jowayne Laidley of Orlando, Fla., and sophomore Carlos Filho of Sao Paulo, Brazil, rounded out the scoring.
The Cavaliers' defense did well to hold off the SJCC attack, allowing only one shot on goal in the second half.
