DOUGLAS -- Kingsley Cajuste ran away from the pack and led the way for the Cavaliers' first perfect score at a dual meet at South Georgia College today.
Cajuste, of Grand Island, Bahamas, won the race at what would be the season's first 8K at 28:17. Darton's Heath Lamb, of Moultrie (29:02), Cody Mallchock, of Woodstock (29:31), Ryan Judson, of Bonaire (29:43), and Nathan Norton, of Americus (29:56), finished second through fifth, respectively, to bring in the men's program's first perfect score of 15 points.
Darton's Arthur Casey, of Tampa, Fla., finished sixth, Nick Mascardo, of Pensacola, Fla., finished eigth, Hank Campbell, of Guyton, finished ninth and Mackenzie Marcelin, of Stockbridge, finished 10th to keep all but one of South Georgia College's runners out of the race's top ten finishers.
"There was no shade. The course was all in the open sun and it was hot," said first-year head coach Bruce Skiles. "But I was pleased overall, and comparing these to the times from last year -- we're actually faster as a group."
The Lady Cavaliers also won their race, with Pensacola, Fla., freshman Jeronda Stringer leading the way at 23:20 to capture the individual champion win for the 5K (3.1 mile) course.
"The course was long," Skiles said. "At least a minute-and-a-half long. Based on what they've been doing their halves in, they should have ran 21s (Saturday if the course was accurate)."
Darton sophomore Shay Wright, of Griffin, finished second (23:54). Hayden Clapper (24:22), of Oviedo, Fla., Ashley Tosky (24:45) of Leesburg, and Lacey Webb (24:59), of Moultrie, finished third through fifth, respectively, to finish out the women's team score of 18.
