ALBANY -- Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar, a well-known and popular restaurant chain, has made a deal to build in Albany, sources say.

The restaurant will be located at 2822 Nottingham Way, at the junction of Ledo Road in the Walden Place shopping complex, and "may be open before the year is out," according to Tracy Hester, senior manager of Planning and Development Services in Albany.

Randy Groover, regional marketing manager for the Minneapolis-based company, confirmed Monday that a deal has been signed to build the new restaurant. Groover said it was still "early in the process" and that "an architect had not even been assigned yet."

While it's possible that construction of the 5000-square-foot facility could be completed this year, corporate planners have assigned a target date of Jan. 12, 2012 for the opening, Groover said.

According to company literature, Buffalo Wild Wings was founded in 1981 in Kent, Ohio, by two friends who had lived in Buffalo, N.Y. Because they both missed the "Buffalo style" of chicken wing preparation, the pair established what was known originally as Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck, now Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar.

The restaurant chain continues to promote itself primarily as a "sports bar," serving its signature chicken wings and sauces, as well as a complete menu of salads, burgers and specialty items, company sources say.

YAY! I'm excited about something new coming to Albany. Now if only Olive Garden would get on board...
