ALBANY -- Ms. Deborah Ann Battle, 60, of Lawrenceville died on August 25, 2011 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on September 1, 2011 at Meadows Mortuary Chapel in Atlanta with interment at Broadlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Buford.

Deborah Ann Battle was born on July 12, 1951 to the late Charles M. Battle, Jr. and Mabel Jackson Bass in Albany, GA. She was the eldest of three children and always endeavored to care for her young siblings.

Deborah was educated in the Dougherty County Public Schools and always attained scholastic honors. She was an active participant in school activities exhibiting talents in music, dance, and leadership. She graduated from Albany State college with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and a Masters from Valdosta State University. Deborah worked as a chemist for M & M Mars and Merck Chemical in Albany. She also worked with the Dougherty County School System and served as a motivational speaker for students coming into the Turner Job Corps. Deborah was a member of the Zeta Phi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.

Deborah loved life and her family whom she held close to her heart. She exhibited great strength in facing illness setting an example for all to follow.

Deborah leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Sameka; beloved grandson, Donavin; brothers, Charles Bass of Harrisburg, PA and Eric Bass of Albany; and a host of relatives. In addition to her immediate family, Deborah will be dearly missed by her friends, coworkers, and sorority sisters.
