The latest edition of the Georgia Prep Football Poll was released Tuesday and four Southwest Georgia teams received votes.

Seminole County, which nearly upset No. 5 Wesleyan last Friday before falling, 43-40, received four votes in Class A.

Albany, which pounded city rival Dougherty on Saturday, 39-7, got one vote in Class AA, while Westover (Class AAA) and Lee County (Class AAAA) also received one vote.

Bainbridge was the only area team to get a vote in the poll coming into the season but didn’t receive any votes this time around, despite beating Early County in its season opener, 16-12.

SOFTBALL:

LEE 6, TIFT COUNTY 4: The Lee County softball team avenged a loss to Tift County on Tuesday that came in the first game of the season with a 6-4 win.

The Lady Trojans racked up 10 hits and made only two errors — a far better performance than when Lee lost to Tift, 6-4, in its season opener when it made seven errors.

Alyson Marshall earned the win, striking out two on just four hits in 6 1/3 innings, while Hailey Scott was a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles. Brandi Blount went 2-for-4, while Ashley Nichols went 2-for-3. Nichols and Natalie Shiver had two RBI as Lee improved to 5-7 on the season.

SGA 17, DWS 7 (5): Allison Houston allowed two hits, Morgan Everson and her little sister Baylee Everson had two hits and two RBI each and SGA (6-2) rolled to a 17-7, five-inning win against Deerfield on Tuesday to keep the Lady Knights (0-6) winless.

Jenna Kitchings added two RBI and had five stolen bases for SGA, while Addison Ponder notched a double and two RBI.

Sabrina Curry had two hits, one of which was a double, for DWS, which also got two hits from Amber Olsen, who finished with a double and three RBI and Gaby Burt had two hits and two RBI.

RANDOLPH SOUTHERN 11, WESTWOOD 1: Westwood, the second-ranked softball team in the GISA Class A Coaches Poll, dropped its second straight game Tuesday.

One day after losing to SGA, the Lady Wildcats lost at home to Region 3-A opponent Randolph Southern, 11-1.

Randolph Southern’s Alana McCook and Madison Ragan combined to pitch a two-hitter as Ragan struck out 10.

At the plate for the Lady Patriots, Ragan was 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBI, Beth Clark was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Dana McCarter was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
