ATLANTA – An Albany man has struck gold with a Georgia Lottery win before the holidays.
Walter Meekins, who celebrated his 55th birthday Nov. 23, won a $181,108 jackpot prize from matching all five winning numbers in the Nov. 8 Fantasy 5 drawing.
He claimed his prize recently at the Georgia Lottery’s District Office in Tifton.
A logistics manager, Meekins used four of his own numbers plus one Quik Pik to create his lucky combination.
“It’s an unusual group of numbers that I usually play in Florida when I go bowling there,” he explained. “I didn’t have my routine numbers, so I played those here instead.”
Winning numbers from the Nov. 8 drawing were: 8-21-27-31-37.
Meekins stopped for a soda at East Side Grocery, 326 S. Mock Road in Albany, where he purchased the ticket.
The lucky winner and his wife, Gail, have no immediate plans for their windfall.
