ALBANY — Auditions for Theatre Albany’s February 2012 production of “Gee’s Bend” will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the theater, 514 Pine Ave., Theatre Albany Artistic Director Mark Costello said.
“Gee’s Bend” depicts the turbulent history of African-Americans in the 20th century by focusing on a single family in the real community of Gee’s Bend, Ala., which is now famous for the beautiful quilts created by the women who grew up there. Gospel songs weave in and out of this hauntingly beautiful work, Costello said.
He is looking to cast three African-American women and one African-American man. Roles include Sadie Pettway (plays ages 15, 41, 78); Alice Pettway (plays ages 34, 61) then plays Asia (age 45); Nella Pettway (plays ages 17, 44, 81), and Macon Pettway (plays ages 25, 51).
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Rehearsals are set to begin in January with performances scheduled for Feb. 2-12. For information, contact the theater at (229) 439-7193.
