ALBANY, Ga. — Two Dougherty County schools were placed on lockdown Friday morning after gunshots were reported nearby, public safety officials said.
Just before 11 a.m., Lamar Reese Elementary and Martin Luther King Elementary School issued a “Code Red,” prompting the schools to increase security measures as Dougherty County police officers canvassed the neighborhoods, looking for a suspect.
A supervisor at Albany’s E-911 Center said that gunshots had been reported in the vicinity of the 1200 block of Butternut Street, which is near the two schools.
No one was injured and DCSS Public Information Officer R.D. Harter said that the lockdown was lifted around 1 p.m.
