OUTDOORS: Weekly Fishing Reports

Lake Seminole — Bass fishing is good. Despite cooler temperatures, fish remain active on the grassy flats and along grasslines adjacent to flats on the main lake. Fish lip-less crankbaits on heavy line directly in the grass and fish holes in the grass mats and the edges of grasslines with Texas-rig worms. Fish worms slowly at 7 to 10 feet. Crappie fishing is fair. Numbers are down, but sizes are still impressive. Jigs tipped with minnows are working best now. Bream fishing is at a standstill and catfish have markedly decreased their feeding activity.

Lake Walter F. George — Bass fishing is fair. Fish deeper structure with Texas-rig worms or Carolina-rig lizards. Crayfish-pattern crankbaits may work as well. Shallow structure is giving up a few largemouths on slowly fished jigs. In grassy structure, flip the hydrilla mats well after sunup. Ledge-fishing with Carolina-rigs may also work. Crappies continue to hold deep along the creek and river channels. Slow trolling with minnow-tipped jigs is a pretty good bet. Catfish and bream have slowed down drastically.

Flint River — Shoal bass fishing has tailed off considerably with the cooler mornings. Few tactics will be productive at this time. Die-hards may use lead-head grubs, shallow crankbaits, and topwater lures in crawdad patterns. Largemouths are reported as extremely slow. Crappies are good in size but only fair in numbers. Only a handful of anglers report sizable catches. Hybrids can be fair as the river widens and nears Lake Seminole. Fish deep with spoons. Bream fishing is slow and the catfish are not active.

Lake Blackshear - Smaller bass are biting fairly well, but larger fish are hard to come by. Early and late, fish soft-plastic baits near grassy areas and around blowdowns. Also fish small plastic worms near docks and other structure. Schooling activity has decreased drastically. Crappies are good. Jigs are working around visible bridge structure and live minnows will catch fish along some of the creek channels. Stripers are not producing many good reports. Bream fishing has been very slow of late and catfish are fair in spots but generally hard to catch.
