APD responds to robbery

ALBANY, Ga. — Just before 9 p.m. Sunday, the Albany Police Department dealt with a shooting authorities now believe to be gang-related, which was followed by an armed robbery.

At 209 Slater King Drive, Apartment L — within the Mount Zion Garden apartments complex — officers arrived after being dispatched to the scene to see Jamarous Wright, 19, lying on the floor inside the apartment with a gunshot wound to the back.

He was the only one injured in the attack.

Trawick Kennedy, 17, has been charged with nine counts of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated battery, one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, four counts of cruelty to children and gang participation.

Kennedy was picked up in connection with the incident by the APD Gang Unit on the 600 block of South McKinley Street.

In addition, Alonzo Solomon and Vincent Whitaker were arrested and charged for probation violations. These charges are unrelated to the shooting.

Additional arrests are pending.

Wright was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for further treatment. As of mid-afternoon Monday he was in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

This case has been forwarded to the Gang Unit and remains under investigation.

Not long after that incident on Sunday, a 60-year-old man on the 800 block of Turner Field Road was robbed at gunpoint.

In that incident, the victim reported that he was sitting at his desk at work when an unknown female, wearing a scarf to conceal her face, approached him and pointed a revolver at him.

The armed woman demanded money. When the victim stated that he did not have any money, she ordered him to get into his vehicle and had him drive to a local bank. When the victim was unable to retrieve any money from an ATM, she had him drive back to the incident location.

The victim stated that the female took his wallet, his keys and his bank card and walked away. His vehicle was not taken.

The suspect was described as a 50-year-old black female who is 5 feet tall and weighs about 160 pounds. She has black hair, brown eyes, a medium brown complexion and a slender build.
