Do you remember when teachers were held to a higher moral and ethical standard than the average person? When I taught at Harren High School in NYC, I rode a motorcycle to beat traffic and get to my second job in the afternoon. Plus, it was quick up to CCNY for night classes.
I was told it was detrimental to the professional image for me to ride one to school. So I parked it in a parking garage three blocks from the school. We had to wear slacks, white shirt, tie and a jacket. I was a shop teacher.
Now we accept teachers cheating on school tests, deceiving social programs, shoplifting and more. What type of example are they setting for the students? What is the community as a whole saying by allowing this to go on?
If a certain rumor is correct, you could go back 20 years and you would find the lunch program has been victimized by about every parent/school system employee. The word was that no one checked, so you could get by with it.
Apparently someone finally snitched and two got caught. I just wonder how true the rumor is and if the school system will really check it out.
