LOCAL COLLEGE HOOPS NOTEBOOK: GSW men ranked No. 17 in latest D-II poll: South Georgia Tech men beat Middle Georgia Tech in OT

AMERICUS -- For the fourth time this year, the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes are ranked in the NABC Division II Top 25 Coaches poll. Their 17th ranking in the most recent poll marks the third time the Blue & Gold have been ranked since the season began. GSW was also ranked 21st in the NABC's Preseason poll. Georgia Southwestern was the only Peach Belt Conference team to be ranked in the Top 25 with Montevallo and USC Aiken both receiving votes.

This marks the third straight week the Canes have been ranked during the 2011-12 season. Coach Mike Leeder and company were ranked for five weeks during all of last season. Going back to this year's preseason poll, GSW has been ranked in the Top 25 since Nov. 1.

The men will look to defend their Top 25 ranking tonight when they travel to Clayton State University for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

SGT MEN WIN: The South Georgia Tech men's basketball team improved to 7-6 overall Tuesday by defeating Middle Georgia Technical College, 71-68, in overtime.

The Jets were led by Tae Clowers with 25 points and 14 rebounds, followed by BJ Davis, who tossed in 18 points, including five 3-pointers.

The Jets will next travel to LaGrange today to take on Sound Doctrine at 7 p.m.

MCCALL CONTINUES TO SHINE FOR LADY JETS: SGT's Shontae McCall, a 6-foot-1 sophomore from Lynn Haven, Fla., was recognized by the NJCAA on Tuesday as a leader in four different individual basketball statistic categories this week.

McCall is ranked 13th nationally in individual scoring, 17th in rebounding, 21st in assists and 24th in steals.

McCall has helped lead the Lady Jets to six consecutive wins and a tie for first place in Region XVII with a 4-0 record. The Lady Jets are tied for first place with Middle Georgia College in Cochran.

McCall was recently named the GCAA Player of the Week.

The Lady Jets will return to action Dec. 16 at Shelton State in Birmingham, Ala.
