ALBANY -- Mr. Clarence L. "Ranzo" Jones, 73, of Albany, formerly of Gurley, AL died Monday, December 12, 2011 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Victory Tabernacle Assembly of God, 3250 Sylvester Rd, Albany with Pastor Eddie Adams officiating. Interment will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Northside Cemetery on Jordan Lane in Huntsville, AL.
In Gurley, Alabama, to the union of Jesse George Jones and Christal Bell Hughes Jones, Ranzo, a Valentine's Day baby was born.
While he was quite young, his family relocated to Huntsville where he attended Winston Street and Council High Schools. He started working at a young age and spent many of them at Huntsville Implement Company/Case from 1955-1974. He then moved his young family to the Tifton and Albany area where he worked until his retirement in 2006-2007. He was known in this area to coworkers and friends as "Crock."
He faithfully attended Victory Tabernacle (Pastor Eddie Adams) until his health began to fail.
During one of his yearly trips home to Huntsville he confessed Christ and was baptized (July 2009) by one of his many loving nephews, Elder Maurice Childress (Mary).
Ranzo was a very strong man, not so much physically, but he was a giant among men in his love, his caring, and his generosity of spirit. Everybody loved "Jones."
He is survived by his spouse of forty-nine years and eight months, Iola Scott Jones; four daughters, Marsha (Kelvin), Cynthia and Kelly of Atlanta, and Heather of Albany; five grandchildren, Jessica, DJ, Trenton, Brian and Alana; six great grandchildren, Jaeda, Jamael, Darnell, Davion, Cassie Lynn and Tyler; two brothers, Rev. Lawrence Childress (Ora) of Huntsville and Franklin D.R. (Jake) Jones of Louisville; two sisters, Dollie Elizabeth Scruggs (James) and Helen (Heck) Childress; one brother-in-law, Carl S. Ford (Shirley) of Huntsville; one sister-in-law, Lois S. Narcisse (Joseph) of Hawaii. He also leaves a host of very special nephews, nieces and their spouses and children as well as countless friends, coworkers, and neighbors.
We are thankful for the time we had with him and the positive ways he touched and enriched our lives.
The remains of Mr. Jones will lie in state at the church on Saturday morning from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour. The family of Mr. Jones will receive friends and relatives at 2706 Yorktown Ave. here in Albany.
