ALBANY, Ga. — The Albany City Commission passed a resolution acknowledging the results of a December 3 runoff that resulted in former Commissioner Dorothy Hubbard being elected as the city’s next mayor.
Under the city charter, the city commission can’t overturn the results of a municipal election, so technically it doesn’t “certify” elections the way the Georgia Secretary of State does for state and county elections.
Instead, the commission merely recognizes the results of the election through adoption of a resolution.
Hubbard earned more votes in a December 3 runoff than local businesswoman B.J. Fletcher. Hubbard will take office at the first official city commission meeting in January.
The commission also passed a resolution acknowledging the results of the Ward VI runoff between incumbent Tommie Postell and Victor Edwards, which Postell won.
