Area gets festive

Members of the Palmyra Heights Neighborhood Association pack dirt and candles into luminaries that are being distributed throughout the Garden District ahead of the Christmas holiday. A tradition ongoing for the last 20 years, the lights are meant to be reminders of hope during the Holiday season.

While reindeer are typically the most popular and whimsical four-legged mammals during the Christmas season, prior to the writing of the famous poem, “The Night Before Christmas,” Santa was believed to have found alternative means of transportation, including donkeys, as he gave gifts to good boys and girls.
