Dougherty County Police Department officers interviewed witnesses and investigated the shooting of a man at Paradise Village mobile home park at about 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Dougherty County — Robbers shot a man in the head while he prepared dinner on a grill behind his residence in Paradise Village on the 600 block of Holly Drive, said a Dougherty County Police Department official.
"It appears to be a robbery attempt," said county police Capt. Jim Sexton. "A Hispanic man was shot in the head during an attempted robbery. He is in Phoebe (Putney Memorial Hospital) being treated."
Police did not release the name of the victim pending family notification. Neighbors at Paradise Village preferred not to identify the victim.
Sexton said that the two black men drove away in a blue, small, two-door car with a hubcap missing from one wheel.
Details were sketchy but the shooter was said to be wearing a brown jacket or hoodie over a black shirt and blue jeans. The other man wore a white T-shirt and orange sweat pants.!q The men were described as being about 5-feet-9-inches tall.
Translating for Saul Gomes, a witness to the shooting, Manuel Gonzalez said the two thieves made a friendly approach to the victim asking where they could buy beer.
"Then they asked for money," Gonzalez said. "When they got none they shot him in the head, above his eye. He didn't fall down. But there was a lot of blood. The robbers got scared and ran away."
Another Paradise Village resident drove by on his way out of the mobile home park. Dante Ortega said he pulled over when he saw the victim.
"No one was calling the police," Ortega said. "I called as soon as I saw him."
