Weekend crime includes arson

ALBANY — A man placed a knife to a 40-year-old man’s throat at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday and demanded money, stated an Albany Police Department report.

Sitting in a car at 2301 E. Broad Ave., Saul Martinez threw cash out the window under threat of having his throat cut, the report added.

The thief took the money and ran with his female accomplice, who wore a red shirt and had braided hair, north on Elsom Street.

An arsonist threw a Molotov cocktail at a residence at 1124 W. Gordon Ave. about 3:50 a.m. Sunday. It shattered a window and set curtains on fire. No injuries were reported.

The arson case remains under investigation by police and the Albany Fire Department.

A man leaving the area near NAPA Auto Parts store at 2401 Sylvester Road caught patrolling officers’ attention about 4:30 a.m. Monday. The man ran and could not be located.

An investigation revealed that the auto parts store had been broken into.

The thief stole a case of motor oil, three black boxes with unidentified contents and three tool sets in plastic casings.

The goods were recovered near the store.
