ALBANY -- The Sherwood Christian football team didn't have any players sign on National Signing Day on Wednesday, but coach Reggie Mitchell assured that there will be plenty of players from this past season's talented Eagles squad who will do so in the near future, possibly as soon as next week.
"We had a bunch of kids who were still weighing their options (when National Signing Day) approached, so we just decided to have them all sign at once together after everyone decided," Mitchell said.
Those players with multiple offers and interest include defensive end Chris Roberts, who has scholarships awaiting him from Saint Augustines College (N.C.), Concordia College (St. Paul, Minn.), West Alabama, Copiah Lincoln Community College and Southwest Mississippi Community College. Roberts also garnered interest from Jacksonville State, North Carolina Central and Florida A&M.
Fellow Eagles defensive end Darren Akins currently has offers from St. Augustines College, Concordia and Morehouse.
Phillip English, the Eagles' star running back this past season, has firm scholarships offers from Mercyhurst College (Pa.), Virginia Union and Tusculum College (Tenn.).
Javaz Williams, the Eagles' All-State selection at linebacker, is receiving interest from Lake Erie College (Pa.), Missouri Southern State, Virginia Union and LaGrange College. Williams is also looking at going to Liberty College for wrestling.
And lastly, the Eagles' standout quarterback, Terrance Burnette, is receiving interest from Lake Erie College, LaGrange, Virginia Union and Missuori Southern State.
