Bobby McKinney will fill development authority vacancy (Update with Video)

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Dougherty County Commission has tapped Bobby McKinney, former chairman of the Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission, to fill a vacancy on its development authority.

In a unanimous vote, the commission named McKinney to fill the unexpired term on the Dougherty County Development Authority left by former DCDA member Rusty Arnold, who moved out of the county. That term conintues through Dec. 31.

McKinney came off the EDC after his term as the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce representative expired and he wasn't selected for a seat by the Albany City Commission earlier this year.

Commissioner Ewell Lyle, who made the nomination, said he believed McKinney was a good fit for the position.

"He's knowledgeable about the needs of Dougherty County and has contacts that I think need to be taken advantage of to grow jobs and stimulate growth," Lyle said.

The DCDA -- like the Albany Dougherty Inner City Development Authority, the Payroll Development Authority and the Hospital Authority -- is a bonding agent within the county that can back community projects with government financing using the bond market.

Dougherty County Commission Chairman Jeff "Bodine" Sinyard, who has known McKinney for years, said he thought the commission's decision was a good move.

"He has experience that can't be anything but beneficial to Dougherty County," Sinyard said. "I'm confident he'll be an asset to that board and will continue to be an asset to the people of Dougherty County."
