Drug dealers sent to federal prison

MACON, Ga. -- Two drug dealers pleaded guilty and were sentenced in federal court Friday in the Middle District of Georgia.

"Getting drug dealers off the street remains a priority of my office," said Michael J. Moore, U.S. attorney. "I believe we make our communities safer by getting drug dealers off the streets."

According to a U. S. Attorney's Office statement, Sidney Whitfield, 41, of Albany pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute in excess of 500 of cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The statement added that Whitfield was sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison with five years of supervised release after he gets out. His sentence took on enhancement because of his previous convictions in state court of possession of cocaine and marijuana with intent to distribute.

The statement continued, "On May 26, 2009 agents executed a search at Sydney Whitfield's residence seizing 932.2 grams of cocaine hydrochloride, 27.6 grams of crack cocaine and $30,291 in cash."

Nathaniel Hodges, 21, of Americus also pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to distribute in excess of five grams of crack cocaine, said the statement. Hodges was sentenced to serve more than three years in prison.

"On September 10, 2009, agents executed a search warrant at Hodges' residence in Americus seizing 8.3 grams of crack cocaine and 62.7 grams of powder cocaine along with $9,872," according to the statement.
