CORDELE -- Mason Jones led Westwood with 17 points but the Wildcats fell in the Region 3-A final on Friday night to Georgia Christian, 50-36, and now enter next week's state tournament as a No. 2 seed.

They play at ABAC on Thursday against an opponent yet to be determined.

CRISP ACADEMY 44, WESTWOOD 29:

Virginia Vereen and Miller Singleton led the Lady Wildcats with eight points each, but they fell to Crisp in the title game of the Region 3-A tournament on Friday night.

The Lady Wildcats (14-10) get a bye in the first round of the state tournament and play their first game next Friday at ABAC against an opponent yet to be determined

CALHOUN BOYS 82, LEE COUNTY 53:

The Calhoun County boys basketball team ended Lee County's season of struggles Friday with a win against the Trojans, 82-53, behind Vincent Powell's 21 points and 14 from Raishun Anderson. Josh Cabrera scored 25 for Lee, and Travian Bryant added 12.

Calhoun next heads to Pelham -- the host site for the Region 1-A tournament that starts Tuesday -- while Lee County goes to Bainbridge for its Region 1-AAAA tournament that also starts Tuesday. Both teams won't find out who they'll play until after the weekend.

In Lee-Calhoun girls action, Jessica Clinton scored 14 points, Dequenna Moore added 12 and the Lady Trojans ended their regular season on a strong note with a 44-34 whipping of the Lady Cougars, who were led by Santana Ingram's 17 points and Gaby Christopher (13 points).

SEMINOLE COUNTY BOYS 77, QUITMAN 61:

Minus Albany Herald People's Choice Player of the Week Kerry Chrispen, the Indians didn't miss a beat as Dee Virgin stepped up in the absence of the Seminole County's leading scorer and dropped 21 points, followed by Nate George with 12 and Hank Rambo with 11.

Chrispen, who sank the game-winning shot to beat bitter rival Miller County on Tuesday, was hurt on a play just before that game-winner -- suffering a laceration to his face -- and he later required 15 stitches.

"We just decided to hold him out (Friday night and get him ready for the playoffs)," Seminole coach Kevin Godwin said. "Dee Virgin had a huge game in his place."

The Indians next travel to Pelham, which is the host site, for the Region 1-A Tournament after tonight's regular-season finale against -- ironically -- Pelham.

The Seminole girls beat Quitman on Friday, 57-46, although no final stats were available at press time.

TERRELL COUNTY BOYS, GIRLS SWEEP WEBSTER:

The Greenwave beat Wesbeter, 88-68, on Friday behind 21 points from Brian Browner and 16 from Elliot Harvey as the win improves TC to 20-3 overall and 13-1 in region.

The Lady Greenwave also won, although no final score or stats were available at press time.
