Albany commission tentatively adopts clinic concept

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Albany City Commission has given preliminary approval to establishment of a health clinic for city employees.

In a unanimous vote at its work session a few minutes ago, the commission tentatively adopted the health care clinic concept for the city.

City officials say that in its first year, they expect that the clinic would reduce health claims by municipal employees by 10 percent.

No target date has been established for opening the clinic. Among other considerations, commissioners will have to find a site for the facility.

Mediacom has offered the city its old headquarters near downtown in return for the city wiping away debt the media company owes the city, but that has come under strong criticism from the community.
