Couple admits to violating federal law

MOULTRIE, Ga. -- Thomas Watts, 57, and Cathy Watts 54, of Moultrie pleaded guilty Thursday to violating a federal hazardous materials transportation law between January and July 2009, according to Michael J. More, U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Georgia.

The couple admitted that they used an unsafe, defunct trucking company to transport at least 19 shipments of pesticide and fertilizer in violation of federal law, More added.

More said the Waitrons each face a maximum penalty of up to five years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing will be scheduled for a later date.
