SHELLMAN -- The Georgia State Patrol's Cuthbert office said two people died and five were injured in a head-on collision between an SUV and an automobile Sunday morning around 7 o'clock on State Highway 82 in Randolph County, near Shellman.
According to troopers, an SUV driven by Seaborn J. Johnson, 48, of Cuthbert crossed the centerline and slammed head-on into a Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 24-year-old Christopher Lehr of Georgetown. Lehr, as well as his mother, Sandra Lehr Brown, 43, who was in the passenger's seat, died on impact.
Four people were in the back seat of the Lehr vehicle. All four -- three juveniles and Billy Ray Brown, 54, of Georgetown -- suffered critical injuries. Johnson was also transported to Phoebe.
All five surviving victims remained hospitalized as of Monday afternoon.
