ALBANY -- The Albany High School baseball team, under the direction of Charles Chatmon, is off to a perfect 2-0 start following Wednesday's 7-5 win against Mitchell County.

The Indians opened the season earlier this week with a 22-12 rout of Monroe.

On Wednesday, Albany was led by Josh Nolin, who not only picked up the win on the mound -- striking out eight Eagles batters -- but he also finished 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Calvin Bennett, however, was the big bat for Albany as he finished with two hits and two RBI.

Mitchell managed just two hits in the game, but scored most of its runs off seven walks by Albany pitchers.

Albany next faces city rival Westover on Friday at Paul Eames Park at 5:30 p.m., while Mitchell faces local rival Baconton Charter next at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Sneads (Fla), 6: The Seminole Indians started their baseball season Wednesday by sweeping the first two games at the Bainbridge Tournament. Justin Burke went 3-for-4 with three RBI against Cairo then went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer against Sneads. Jordan Harris went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the opener, and Chris Brown hit a solo homer in his first game, just a few days after basketball season ended.

Quan Johnson (1-0) went four innings with three strikeouts and no walks without allowing an earned run in the opener, and Sam Buczek (1-0) picked up the win on the mound against Sneads, going four innings and allowing four hits and three earned runs while striking out five. Buczek went 4-for-5 with three doubles and drove in five runs. Antwan Buggs went 3-for-3 against Sneads.

LEESBURG -- Fresh off a 2-0 win against Houston County in its opener late last week, the Lee County girls soccer team -- which made school history with its run to the Elite 8 last year -- moved to 2-0 with a 7-1 rout of Colquitt on Tuesday night.

Sophomores Nicole Polk and Carsen Taylor each scored three goals, while freshman Elise Mullins added the final goal. Danielle Brendel and Lauren Tosky each recorded three saves in goal.

Lee's next game is today at Tift County.

ALBANY -- The Westover boys and girls tennis teams continued their stellar start to the 2011 season Tuesday when they dropped just one match out of 10 in a pair of routs against Cairo at Darton College.

The girls won, 5-0, while the boys won, 4-1, as both squads improved to 3-1 on the year.

Westover's wins came from No. 1 singles player Savannah Boysen, No. 2 Lizzie Hale and No. 3 Mills Pickett. The Lady Patriots' No. 1 doubles duo, Morgan Barton and Rachel Clenney, and No. 2 doubles team of Rebekah Brown and Meera Kuntawala, also picked up points with their wins.

The Westover boys, meanwhile, were led by No. 1 singles star Matthew Cannon, No. 2 singles players Kyler Ryer and Edwin Bell at No. 3.

But the Patriots faltered at No. 1 doubles as Cairo's Marcus Holmes and Phil Lehman upset Tyler Clenney and Mason Murphy, 6-0, 6-2. The Patriots' No. 2 tandem of Lloyd Fisher and Elliot Nelson earned the Patriots' final point.

Westover's next match is March 3 vs. Americus-Sumter.
