ALBANY, Ga. -- What began as one or two is now up to eight as the city's efforts to revitalize its downtown area received more commitments from local businesses.
In total, eight new businesses are "for sure" coming into the downtown area, with some already open or on the verge of opening, Downtown Manager Aaron Blair said.
"It's a diverse mix of different types of businesses," Blair said. "We're excited and think they'll bring a whole new environment to downtown."
That diversity is what Blair said he believes is needed in order to make downtown thrive as a whole.
In an e-mail Thursday, Blair provided a list of businesses he said were "for sure" coming downtown.
From an Aikido school to a bridal and alteration shop to a general store and a tax preparation service, the list contains a wide variety of businesses.
Up to four more businesses are discussing moving downtown but haven't yet confirmed or found the right location, Blair said.
