MILLEDGEVILLE -- Keith Jones uttered the words -- and they never sounded sweeter.

"Three-peat, baby!" Jones said. "Three-peat!"

Jones and his girls from Terrell Academy won their third consecutive GISA State Championship on Saturday, this time 43-41 against Gatewood in the Class AA final after Maura Milliron hit a shot with 2.4 seconds left to break the 41-41 tie, leaving Gatewood stunned after it had just banked in a 3-pointer with six seconds to go to tie it.

And while each of Terrell's three state titles the last three years came down to the final seconds, this one was oh, so much sweet for one simple reason: The Lady Eagles' last two crowns came in Class A, but they moved up this past offseason and heard endless criticism from nay-sayers who thought their run was over.

The title was in doubt, however, the whole way. Terrell trailed by double-digits for most of the first half, but crawled back and took the lead for the first time all game with four minutes to play in the fourth.

Earlier in the day, Terrell's longtime rival from Camilla, the Westwood Lady Wildcats, lost in the Class A title game to neighboring Southwest Georgia rival, Crisp Academy, 52-37, for the fourth time this season.

Westwood trailed, 14-11, after the first quarter, but managed only one bucket in the second quarter and never recovered as they went to halftime trailing, 29-13.

Crisp Academy's Maddie Mitchell led the way for the other Lady Wildcats with 24 points.
