Grady Rachel, an Albany Police Department officer, was arrested by Lee County Sheriff's Office deputies for firing a gun to celebrate New Years, said a source at the Albany Police Department.
A Lee County resident, Rachel, 28, was immediately suspended with pay pending the conclusion of an internal affairs investigation, said police Chief John Proctor.
Another man Demetrius Hope Eady, 32, was also arrested for discharging his weapon, according to Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals.
Both men shot their weapons at about 12:05 a.m. today in a well populated area at 114 Elejay Court.
