ALBANY, Ga. -- Another Black Gangster Disciple faces murder charges in connection with the beating death of an Albany man in 2009, an Albany Police Department e-mail stated.
Police arrested Jason Staples, 30, at about 4 p.m. Tuesday and charged him with murder and gang participation in the killing of Reginald Richardson on June 23, 2009, the e-mail added.
"Officers were on patrol and observed the subject (Staples) working at SOWEGA Tax (& Accounting Services) on Gillionville Road" said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. Details of the arrest were not immediately available, however Banks added that Staples offered no resistance.
Gang members beat Richardson to death when an initiation known as a "beat down" went too far, police said.
Others facing murder, gang participation and aggravated assault charges stemming from the death are Douglas Luther Shealy II; Corey Jackson; David Freeman; Ernest "Scoop" Thomas; Yaaiel "Yaa" Narvell Shelton; Orlando Charlot Jr. and George Ferguson.
