LEESBURG -- Line 'em up, and knock 'em down.
Actually, make that pin 'em down in the case of Lee County wrestling, which won two more matches in its dominating season so far in 2010-11, downing Cairo (39-36) and Thomas County Central (64-26) during a quad meet Tuesday in Leesburg.
Seniors Connor Cloud and Zach Thompson, the Trojans' leaders all year, won both their matches by pin as Cloud moved to 28-2 on the year, while Thompson is now 32-2.
Not to be outdone, however, was junior Rashad Anthony, the up-and-comer coach Tom Matheny says is just one of the guys to keep a close eye on as the team heads into the 1-AAA Arean Duals this weekend in Columbs, where the Top 2 teams will advance to the GHSA State Championships in February in Atlanta.Lee will be one of six teams competing Saturday as TCC and Bainbridge, the other two schools in Region 1-AAAA that field wrestling programs, chose not to attend.
Anthony moved to 30-2 with two quick pins Tuesday, drawing praise from his coach.
"Those three are doing it. Rashad is gonna be good for us (with a year left), and the other two (Zach and Connor) are already really good," Matheny said. "We expect big things from them this weekend in Columbus, and it should come down to us and Hardaway (for the area title). And we think those three also have a great shot at the (GHSA Individual Championships) the first week in February."
That individual meet will be hosted in Leesburg on Feb. 5 as Matheny expects to qualify a handful for the second GHSA state meet of the year. In prep wrestling, there are two ways to win a state crown: as a team, or as an individual, the tournaments for which take place during separate events in Atlanta in early February.
Lee County picked up three other wins -- all by pin -- during Tuesday's wins: Alex Davis (130 pounds), Devin Elverton (140) and Mantony Harris (145).
