CORDELE, Ga. -- A 70-year-old woman called 911 for help, but later died in the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound while in her Cordele home, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman said.
Mamie Evelyn Wright managed to call for help at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday from her home on the 100 block of N. 13th St., said Danny Jackson, GBI special agent in charge.
"Cordele Police and EMTs responded. She was taken to Crisp Regional Hospital. She died there," Jackson said. "We'll be assisting the Cordele police with the investigation."
Plans call for the body to go to the GBI Crime Lab in Macon for an autopsy, Jackson said. No further details were immediately available.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Cordele police Department or the GBI at (229) 931-2439.
