Morning vehicle crash sends one to the hospital

ALBANY, Ga. -- The driver of a 1985 Ford Ranger pickup escaped injury, but his passenger was taken to the hospital after a 9:27 a.m. auto accident in west Albany Wednesday.

Virginia Hatcher, 79, was a passenger in husband Gordon Hatcher's pickup as he drove south on Westover Boulevard, stated an Albany Police Department report. When he made a turn onto Gillionville Road, a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailor smashed into the passenger side of the pickup injuring Virginia Hatcher, the report added.

"Virginia Hatcher was transported to Phoebe (Putney Memorial Hospital) for further treatment," said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. Banks said everyone was wearing seat belts."

No information on Virginia Hatcher's condition was immediately available from the hospital.

Spencer Hawkins,38, of Leesburg drove the tractor-trailer and was uninjured in the crash, the report stated.
