MONTEVALLO, Ala.- Earlier this week, the Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team took the 13th-ranked team in the country to overtime in the Storm Dome before losing to USC Aiken, 75-72.
As it turns out, the Hurricanes only had to wait four days for their biggest victory of the season -- and arguably in the program's history.
Late Saturday evening, the Hurricanes not only beat a Top 25 program -- knocking off No. 19 Montevallo, 65-55 -- they did it on the road.
GSW never trailed and led by as many as 20 points early in the second half.
The Hurricanes jumped on the Falcons early, opening the game with a 22-4 run during a 10-minute span that proved to be the Colin Slotter show as the freshman scored GSW's first nine points and finished the run scoring 13 of the 22.
The Hurricanes shot a blistering 75 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes and never let the Falcons get closer than nine points (with 31 seconds remaining) the rest of the way.
Slotter finished with a game-high 18 points, connecting on 4 of 6 3-point attempts. Evan Mobley added 16 points and Phillip Brown chipped in 10.
The Hurricanes (8-3, 1-1) next travel to face Georgia College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

GSW WOMEN FALL:
The GSW women's basketball team managed only four field goals in the opening 20 minutes at Montevallo late Saturday evening, shooting 14 percent from the floor, and could not mount a second half comeback, losing to the Falcons, 75-41, in Peach Belt Conference action.
The Lady Hurricanes trailed 38-12 at the half and fell behind by as many as 40 points midway through the second period.
Cierra Duhart led GSW with 10 points, connecting on 5 of 8 field goal attempts. Kanita Holloway pulled down eight rebounds.
The Lady Hurricanes (6-5, 0-2) travel to Georgia College for a 5:30 p.m. matchup on Wednesday.
