HERALD TOP 5 POLL:
BOYS:
1.) Monroe 12-2
The Tornadoes lost for the first time -- and then lost again -- but rebounded with two huge wins, beating city rivals Dougherty (No. 4) and Albany to redeem themselves. Next: at Cairo, tonight 7:30 p.m.
2.) Bainbridge 12-2
The Bearcats have now won nine games in a row after starting the season 3-2, the biggest coming when they routed Tallahassee power Lincoln (Fla.). Next: vs. Malone (Fla.) tonight, 7:30 p.m.
3.) Westover 10-5

4.) Dougherty 6-2
The Trojans lost for just the second time as they faltered late vs. Monroe, but downing a dangerous Crisp team Tuesday keep them at No. 4 this week. Next: at Americus-Sumter, Friday, 8:30 p.m.
5.) Terrell County 10-1
The Greenwave have won six in a row as their lone loss continues to be Monroe as Terrell heads into a huge game Saturday vs. Westover. Next: vs. Webster County, tonight, 7:30 p.m.
GIRLS:
1.) Westover .....11-1
It's hard to drop the Lady Patriots after a 10-0 start then a loss to state power Thomasville when they still have the best record in the Top 5. Next: vs. Crisp County, tonight, 6 p.m.
2.) Americus-Sumter................................................9-2

3.) Dougherty...........................................................10-2
The Lady Trojans are the hottest team in the area, having won eight in a row as they hop from No. 4 last week to No. 3 this week with a huge game vs. No. 2 Americus on Friday. Next: vs. Americus, Friday 7 p.m.
4.) Bainbridge..............................................................9-5 The Lady Bearcats lost one and won one last week, but haven't been their old consistent selves, and after their fifth loss, drop from No. 2 to No. 4 this week. Next: vs. Malone (Fla.), today, 6 p.m.
5.) Pelham................................................................10-2
The Lady Hornets lost a close game to Class AAA Cairo last week, but they've had a torrid start to the season and are still one of the best teams in all of Class A. Next: vs. Mitchell, Friday, 6 p.m.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
"I was scared, scared I would miss the shot and let my team down. But when I made the shot, I was so happy I didn't know what to do. I just jumped up and down. I just knew it was our game (at that point). We were the talk of the town, and we showed up."
--- Kiandra Guilford,
Dougherty girls basketball player after banking home a 3-pointer with 51 seconds left to give the Lady Trojans a 49-48 lead they wouldn't give back -- and propelling Herald No. 3 Dougherty to 10-2 and its
staggering 8th win in a row
