County considers Sales Tax resolution (video added)

ALBANY, Ga.: The Dougherty County Commission will vote next week on whether to join the City of Albany in partnering with the Georgia Department of Revenue to help ensure that local businesses pay their fair share of sales taxes.

In a presentation to the commission Monday, Administrator Richard Crowdis said that the resolution would help reconcile lists of local businesses with one on the books with the DOR to ensure that businesses are properly paying their sales taxes.

The move is a statewide push by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia and the Georgia Municipal Association after a study done last year in Gainesville revealed that nearly 25 percent of businesses were not paying their sales taxes.
