LOCAL SPORTS BRIEFS: Albany’s new semi-pro football franchise sets tryouts; TAE girls hoops wins again

ALBANY — Joining the highly successful South Georgia Warriors semi-pro football team — which is based in Thomasville — will soon be the Albany Thrashers, who don’t open their inaugural season until the summer but will hold tryouts this weekend at Dougherty High School.

The teams will play in the United South Football League, which is made up of semi-professional franchises throughout the Southeast U.S.

The tryout will begin at 11 a.m. and those interested must bring a fee of $25.

TAE GIRLS IMPROVE TO 11-3:

DAWSON — The Terrell Academy girls basketball team improved to 11-3 on Thursday night with a 56-44 win against Fullington, thanks to 14 points from Carley Law, 13 from Alex Barfield and 12 from Maura Milliron.

TAE plays today at CCA.
