SATURDAY'S PREP HOOPS ROUNDUP: Mitchell County boys get even with Albany; Terrell County girls stun Randolph-Clay; Herald No. 3 Bainbridge buries Cairo

CAMILLA -- Despite 27 points from Larry Sanford, Albany (8-7) could not sweep Mitchell this season in a narrow 62-57 loss Saturday night.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in Region 1-A, having now won four games in a row.

After narrowly losing to Albany (56-50) earlier in the season, Mitchell took care of Albany in front of it home crowd.

"It was a great game and one of us had to lose," Albany coach Archie Chatmon said. "(Mitchell) did the things down the stretch they needed to do to win the game."

No final stats for Mitchell County were available at press time.

Albany will travel to Fitzgerald on Tuesday, while Mitchell will host Miller County.

TERRELL COUNTY GIRLS 55, RANDOLPH-CLAY 49:

Nydrah Wright and Deandra Mitchell scored 14 points apiece for TC (3-10) and Cortisha Schley followed that up with 13 points to give the Lady Greenwave just their third win of the season.

Casey Sands finished with a game-high 18 points for sub-region No. 2 R-C (9-11, 8-3) and Kanieka Washington chipped in 12.

TC will travel to face Webster next on Friday, while R-C will host Webster on Tuesday.

BAINBRIDGE BOYS 62, CAIRO 51:

Herald Super 6er Devon Baulkmon poured in 23 points for Bainbridge, which improved to 16-2 with the win -- the Bearcats' 14th in a row. Rodney Glenn chipped in with 11 points. The Herald No. 3 Bearcats will travel to Thomas County Central on Friday.

COOK 69, EARLY 65:

Darontay McCoy'S 23-point effort was not enough to push Early (10-5) to victory.

Jacori Taylor and Ladonis Yarbrough each added 14 points for Early, which next hosts Thomasville on Friday.

ALBANY GIRLS 46, MITCHELL 44:

Brianna Washington exploded for 27 points for Albany, which improved to 8-8 with the win.

"We just wanted to bounce back from the loss earlier in the week," Albany coach Telly Turner said.

Mitchell was led in scoring by A'Miralce Jones with 11 points. Albany will have a big region game against Fitzgerald on Tuesday, while Mitchell will next travel to Miller.

LEE COUNTY GIRLS 54, CALHOUN 37:

Daquenna Moore scored a game-high 19 points for Lee County, which improved to 9-9. Carley Ely added 17 points for Lee, while Brandi Buie had a team-high 18 for Calhoun (10-8). Lee will be at home against Americus-Sumter on Friday, while Calhoun will host Quitman on Tuesday.

CALHOUN BOYS 77, LEE 54:

DeShawn Jordan scored a game-high 21 points for Calhoun (14-4), followed by Vincent Powell with 15 points and Raishun Anderson with 12.

Tanner Stone led Lee with 15 points and Joshua Cabrera added 13.

Calhoun will host Quitman on Tuesday, while Lee (3-14) will host Americus on Friday.

DWS BOYS 77, TATTNALL 43:

Ramello Carter poured in a game-high 22 points for DWS and Banks Kinslow added 17 as DWS improved to 14-3 overall and next preparea for its game at Calvary Christian on Tuesday.

DWS GIRLS 42, TATTNALL 38:

Sabrina Curry had a team-high 12 points for DWS, followed by Sarah Shellhaas with 10 points as the Lady Knights improved to 15-4 overall.

DWS will travel to Calvary Christian on Tuesday.
