ALBANY --- The champagne campaign is complete.

The Albany Panthers celebrated their first Southern Indoor Football League Championship on Saturday with a 62-40 win against the Louisiana Swashbucklers at the Albany Civic Center.

Albany trailed, 27-24, at halftime and actually had its score deducted three points by the officials after halftime when it was ruled that Panthers kicker Geoff Boyer's drop kicks weren't worth two points, but rather one in a highly controversial ruling.

The Panthers were frustrated by the ruling --- and took it out on the Bucs, who were shut down by Albany's staunch defense in the second half, while Panthers QB Cecil Lester and the offense went wild, outscoring the Bucs 41-13 the rest of the way.

Louisiana finishes the season 10-5 -- one win shy of the title for the second year in a row, while Albany wins its first crown one season after falling short in the semis to the Bucs.
