BACONTON --- The Albany Dixie 12-and-younger All-Star baseball team won the Dixie Youth Baseball League District 5 championships last weekend. The tournament was held in Baconton, and after Albany lost its first game to Seminole County, 16-8, it reeled off five straight victories to win the District Championship, beating Lee County, 4-1, Baconton, 12-1, International, 16-0, and avenging the only loss to Seminole County, 5-1, and 5-2 after having to beat SC twice.
After giving up 16 runs in the loss to Seminole, the Albany Dixie squad surrendered just six runs in their final five games.
The team will now be traveling to LaGrange for the state tournament that begins July 16.
