State Supreme Court upholds murder conviction

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Georgia Supreme Court announced today that it has upheld the murder conviction and life sentence of Lyndon Bernard Johnson Jr., who was convicted in 2009 of a 2007 killing.

Johnson was found guilty in January 2009 of the 2007 murder of Jeffrey Brandon Todd, 27, of Carrollton. Todd had come to Albany to take a job and was staying at the Motel 6 in East Albany when teenage gunmen burst into his room in a robbery attempt.

Todd killed one of the bandits,17-year-old Jimmy Teemer, before he was slain.

Johnson was sentenced to life in prison, plus five years. He was also convicted on charges of possession of a firearm during a crime and robbery by sudden snatching. The High Court also upheld that sentence.

He is an inmate at Hancock State Prison.

A second defendant, Patrick R. Jackson, was found guilty in July 2009 on murder and possession of a firearm during a crime charges. He also received a life in prison sentence and is currently housed at Macon State Prison.

Johnson was 18 and Jackson 17 when they killed Todd.
