ALBANY, Ga. -- As expected, former state representative John White will run for mayor, according to an email sent out to the media Wednesday.

In the brief release, White says he and his supporters will rally at Merry Acres conference center at 7 p.m. today to officially announce his candidacy.

The press release provides a statement from White outlining what he plans to say Thursday.

"He will make reference to what he thinks Albany is in need of and how he will attempt to accomplish certain goals for the improvement of the city and its eople," the statement reads.

White will join City Commissioner Dorothy Hubbard, local restaurant owner B.J. Fletcher, and small business owner Kirk Smith as candidates who have publicly announced for the position.

The four are vying to replace outgoing mayor Willie Adams, who announced earlier this year that he would be retiring from public life after eight years in office.
