ALBANY, Ga. -- Five days a week, Roy Fellows drives from Morgan to his job at Albany Body Works, then back again. Now, since winning $1,000 in gasoline from Homerun Foods, he almost looks forward to the trip.
The contest was sponsored by Homerun Foods and The Albany Herald.
"It'll come in handy," was Fellows' first response. "The message from The Herald said I might want to call back for some 'exciting news,' and I knew right away what it was."
Fellows' wife, Tonia, was happy to be wrong for teasing him about the entries.
"She gave me some ribbing about the whole thing. She's all right with it now, though." Fellows said, with a smile.
Fellows followed a specialized method in seeking the big win from an estimated 1,500 entries. An Albany Herald subscriber for "many years," he saved his entry forms until the end of each week, then deposited them at a Home-run Foods store. A total of 28 forms were entered at two stores on alternate weeks, he said.
On Thursday, Fellows was awarded separate $100 gas certificates by Hans Pomeroy, president of Lanier Oil Company, and John Hetzler, general manager of The Albany Herald.
"I just want to thank Homerun Foods and The Albany Herald for all of this," Fellows said.
